I shot this 30 minute set at the Collective Unconscious in NYC in the late ’90s. Mitchell Vaillant is a dear friend and inspiration. He is an amazing performer and a sensitive songwriter. This show is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen him do.

I bought myself a present: a pretty little Lanikai soprano ukelele. It sounds warm and lovely. I’ve been without a piano for the past two years now, and miss it terribly, but I love having an instrument I can easily take with me anywhere.

Music means so much to me. Growing up, my grandfather used to play his guitar, sing and dance with us all the time. I was hooked at a young age. I knew I always had to make room for music in my life.

I don’t know if it’s luck, or if I chose to marry Jay partly because he is a musician. Either way, I love that music is a constant in our home. Our last album, Ultrasound, was recorded while I was pregnant. The first song we recorded, Aloha, and the title of the album was inspired by meeting my baby for the first time on ultrasound.

It’s now been five years since. My kid sings along to the songs she’s inspired. She loves music, and can name any band on our itunes playlist. Among her favorites (and ours) are Belle and Sebastian, old Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, White Stripes, and then some Classic Rock, Mozart and Bollywood music thrown in there for variety.

I want to keep making music. It’s so important to me, and so important that I raise my kid with music around her to open her mind to the amazing power of the invisible.
